ALBERTA DIABETES ATLAS 2007

Members of the BRAID Diabetes Research Group were invited to work with the Alberta Diabetes Surveillence System (ADSS) researchers to produce the first Alberta Diabetes Atlas (2007).

The Atlas was published as part of the Alberta Diabetes Strategy 2003-2013. It includes a chapter on First Nations, comparing rates of type 2 diabetes for First Nations and non-First Nations people in Alberta between the years 1995 and 2005.

The Atlas shows that rates of diabetes were twice as high for First Nations people compared to non-First Nations people through these years. Results were presented at the Canadian Diabetes Association's 2007 and 2008 conferences.
